Welcome to the second issue of The Africa Governance Papers, an academic, peer-review research journal published by Good Governance Africa. The theme of this issue is “One world, many knowledges: Epistemological pluralism and African scholarship". Epistemological pluralism is a major theme of thinking about research in the African context, for good reason. African governance currently – and indeed, in the foreseeable future – is facing challenges that require a wide range of research insight and, consequently, of epistemologies and their associated methodologies to be effective. The articles, reviews and commentary in this issue reflect something of the journal’s multi- and interdisciplinary ambitions, employing as they do a range of research methodologies; they explore very different topics in Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as broader-ranging issues in West Africa and the continent. As an interdisciplinary journal, we hope to see pluralist epistemological approaches to governance scholarship further developed in the coming issues.
